MISSION
Our mission is to enhance the cultural landscape of Horseshoe Bay by offering enriching programs in music, arts, and education. We strive to create accessible, thought-provoking experiences that foster community engagement and personal growth.
HISTORY
In 2016, Horseshoe Bay residents Christine Reed and Michele Shackelford approached Mike Maine with the idea of creating an organization to provide diverse cultural enrichment opportunities for the area’s growing community of retired and semi-retired citizens. Their vision was to offer high-quality programs locally, eliminating the need to travel to Austin or San Antonio for intellectual and musical stimulation. Community meetings confirmed strong interest and financial support for the initiative. As a result, the Horseshoe Bay Cultural Enrichment Society (CES) was incorporated as a Texas not-for-profit in 2017 and received its 501(c)(3) status from the IRS in early 2018. While awaiting official approval, a board was formed, and a full 2018-2019 season was planned, featuring performances by The Four Freshmen and lectures by Yale professor Mark Lapadula on genetics, jazz, and film criticism. The Horseshoe Bay community embraced CES with enthusiasm, selling out events, supporting programs through sponsorships and playbill advertising, and contributing time and funding to ensure its success. Since then, CES has continued to present a wide variety of cultural and educational programs at venues throughout the community.
